Resident Evil 4 , released in Japan as Biohazard 4 (バイオハザード4 , Baiohazādo FO ? ), Is a kind of video game survival horror andshooter in the third persondeveloped byCapcom Production Studio 4and published by the Japanese companyCapcom.
The story is set six years after the events of Resident Evil 2 . It depicts the agent Leon S. Kennedy , sent to Spain by the US government to rescue the daughter of the US president, kidnapped and held hostage by a mysterious cult.
The game has a long and turbulent period of development, during which several beta versions are canceled. As part of an agreement between Nintendo and Capcom , he was finally released on GameCube in early 2005 , where he was considered one of the major titles of this console. He then focused on PlayStation 2 at the end of the year, Windows and Wii in 2007 and reissued in succession on most platforms in the market, showing an unusual longevity and a constantly renewed success.

Six years after the events in Raccoon City , the US special agent Leon Scott Kennedy is sent on a mission in Europe. The daughter of the US President, Ashley Graham , was abducted and would, according to the information available, owned a village of Spain rural. Two officers of the region led him in a remote countryside in their car, not without openly mock him. After crossing a rudimentary rope bridge, they file it and let him continue alone in the middle of a misty rainforest …
Leon quickly realizes that he is not welcome in this hamlet a falsely peaceful, where he faced particularly hostile inhabitants that act under the influence of Los Illuminados ( “The Illuminati” in Spanish), the cult that kidnapped Ashley. During his journey, he is knocked out and captured by the head of the village, Bitores Mendez . During the blackout that followed, inoculated him a parasite by intravenous injection , involving occult speech. This parasite, called Las Plagas( “Scourge” or “plague” in Spanish), deprives its control any infected person, making it a puppet in the hands of the sect. This is the virus that turned the local population by hordes of bloodthirsty warriors.
He wakes up, captive, along with Luis Sera, a former researcher from Los Illuminados run. They manage to break free, but Luis false fast company in Leon, which then continues its primary mission. He finally manages to locate and release Ashley in the village church. By the time they escape, Osmund Saddler , the supreme commander of Illuminados reveals them his evil plan. Kidnapping Ashley, he also wants to inoculate him the parasite so that it contaminates his father, the president of the United States. He hopes to spread his power to the institutions of the world power, corrupt and eventually the international political scene.
After eliminating Bitores Mendez, Leon and Ashley take refuge in the nearby castle. They are then attacked by monks Illuminados fanatics, acting under the command of Ramon Salazar , the current governor of the region, itself under the domination of Saddler. The two become separated again by one of the many traps of the castle. Meanwhile, Luis Research pills to slow the Leon and Ashley infection, and a sample of Las Plagas. Just as he is about to give to Leon, Luis is killed by Saddler, who seizes the sample stride. Kennedy, however, recovers curative pills, which allow it to limit the effects of the parasite. He continued his eventful quest through the castle, and ends up killing Salazar. He meets Ada Wong , an old acquaintance in the nebulous course, which help to achieve the nearby island which was transferred Ashley.
He managed to make their way to this island completely militarized, filled with soldiers infected ever more powerful. The president’s daughter is kidnapped by Saddler again, unable to resist his will because the parasite that carries it. Leon soon discovers that Jack Krauser , one of his former colleagues of the alleged army died in a helicopter crash two years ago, is responsible for the abduction of Ashley. He later learns that Ada and Krauser are working on behalf of Albert Wesker and both have a mission to bring back a sample of Las Plagas. Ada was sent reinforcements when Wesker realized that it was useless to try anything from inside the cult, and it was best to take it directly.
Leon manages to eliminate Krauser after a bitter fight, and then releases Ashley dungeon where she was held hostage. Later, they managed to remove the parasite from their bodies using some sort of device radiotherapy of the sect. Leon eventually confronts Saddler, and with the help of Ada, manages to remove it. The latter, true to its dual behavior, then steals the sample in Leon under the threat of a weapon. Before fleeing aboard a helicopter, it sends the key to a jet ski to allow it to take off with Ashley, even as the scientific complex of the island explodes in the background. The president’s daughter is safe and sound: mission accomplished.
The adventure begins in a rural Spanish village and its surroundings, in which the player fights primarily the original inhabitants of the place, the peasants. The atmosphere is that of a particularly boorish and unhealthy place where dead bodies are abandoned, primary structures, and the omnipresent dirt. The player will have to clear a path often ironing twice in the same places, which is unique to this area first. He met several bosses, like the sea monster Del Lago (a kind of enormous salamander) or Gigante (giant humanoids strongly inspired by the trolls of the Lord of the Rings). This game ends when the player crosses the drawbridge of the nearby castle, after eliminating the village chief Bitores Mendez .
The action then continues in the castle and its dependencies, which are filled with new Ganados called “zealots” that is to say the monks Illuminados wearing large religious robes and chanting continuously. The enemies are more powerful and aggressive, and the many pitfalls. The atmosphere and decor are impregnated with a medieval popular culture, exaggerated and bombastic. The player also passes through the basement of the castle, either in a huge flying creatures infested cave fleeing daylight or in the mines plagasand their rudimentary trucks. This area also contains some passages in the atmosphere more caulked and agonizing, sometimes recalling the mansions of the early episodes of the series. When the player manages to defeat Ramon Salazar , the governor of the castle, he reached the third zone.
Incidentally, this is where the disk change occurs on the original version GameCube .
The third part takes place on an island transformed into a military-scientific complex. It marks from all points of view a significant increase in the difficulty and intensity of the fighting. The Ganados are now soldiers, more powerful, faster, and sometimes equipped with bulletproof vests and helmets making them more resistant. The atmosphere clearly turns action game, with a certain amount of infiltration but a tenuous link to the survival horror classic. Here Leon discovers the scientific side of experiences Illuminados , and he finally thwarts their plans by eliminating Osmund Saddler , the supreme leader of the sect.
