The Cat Lady is an adventure of the Polish Studios Harvester Games from 2012. It is attributed to the horror genre because of numerous explicit depictions of violence, deal with complex content but, psychological developments.
The player assumes the role of Susan Ashworth, a stand-alone middle-aged woman who no longer cope with their lives. She lives after losing their job alone, and their only reference point to the outside world are the cats of the neighborhood that go with her on and off. At the beginning of the game she has just one suicide attempt made. In several chapters, it is important to explore alternate Ashworth’s subconscious and their real environment and to give her a perspective for the future life despite several setbacks.
The Cat Lady is kept in 2D and is controlled entirely with the keyboard. The player moves Susan using the cursor keys left and right, took note of this when passing manipulable objects and can then trigger actions by means of several special keys. The interface are therefore compared to classic point’n’click slightly restricted -Adventures, but sets The Cat Lady focus on a complex plot and the development of the game character, which is sometimes more important for adventure gamers as a sophisticated control.
Author Michalski, who lives as a native of Poland in England and full-time work as a nurse, was animated by its own account through observations and interviews with friends, relatives and patients to a game about depression. A person of his acquaintance had it served as a model for the main character Susan Ashworth. [1] The soundtrack includes songs of the alternative bands Tears of Mars and Warmer . Metacritic aggregate eleven reviews of the game to an average score of 81/100. [5] As a work of a small independent studios was The Cat Lady ignored by many major game magazines. Small online magazines focusing on adventure games were very taken by the complex story and the more unusual setting and the musical accompaniment. The lack of graphic design and occasionally the high proportion of violence were criticized.
