Railroad Tycoon II is a video game for PC , Macintosh , PlayStation and Dreamcast series Railroad Tycoon . Dreamcast version is a special edition with improved graphics and gameplay. Railroad Tycoon II: Gold Edition was ported to Linux by Loki Software .

Railroad Tycoon II is a simulator of railway covering the history of railroads in the late 1700s to the 2000s . The player assumes the role of president of a railroad company, trying to make profits for investors and complete various objectives, while hampered by rival companies, breakdowns and train robbers.

Most of the game consists in building tracks, stations and trains, which are used to carry goods from one station to another. Transport money received is determined by the distance between the two stations, the demand and value of the goods delivered, improving the station and the difficulty level.

The game features a simulated values rather complex bag. The assets of the player are independent of corporate wealth, but control to the player about the company allows experienced players to exploit their businesses by manipulation of dividends, share buybacks and stock problems . The player is free to buy and sell short, possibly resulting in massive debt.

The original game has eighteen missions, divided between North America , Europe and the rest of the world. The missions can be played at three difficulty levels, and each includes three stated objectives. The player can play any mission in each game as many times as you like, and can also continue despite a mission has failed.
