Grand Theft Auto III is an electronic game of third – person shooter in open world developed by DMA Design and published by Rockstar Games . It was released on October 22, 2001 for the PlayStation 2 on May 20, 2002 for Microsoft Windows and on October 31, 2003 for the Xbox . A remastered version was released on mobile platforms in 2011, due to the tenyear anniversary of the game. It is the fifth game in the series Grand Theft Auto , and the first major title since Grand Theft Auto 2 , 1999. Set infictional town of Liberty CityBased in New York , the player controls Claude who, after being left for dead, is enmeshed in the world of gangs, crime and corruption.
The game is viewed in a third – person perspective and navigating your world is done on foot or in a vehicle. The open world allows players explore Liberty City, which consists of three main islands. The development was made between the DMA Design – based in Edinburgh – and Rockstar Games – located in New York. Much of their work was to put the primary elements of the series in a three-dimensional world. The game was postponed due to the September 11 attacks , in order to allow developers to change references and elements of gameplay that would be inappropriate.
Since its release, the game received critical acclaim, with praise particularly directed to its concept and gameplay. However, the game also generated controversy related to its violence and sexual content. Grand Theft Auto III became the best – selling video game of 2001, selling over seventeen million copies. Considered one of the most important titles of the sixth generation of consoles , and by many critics as one of the best games of all time , has received several awards from year end, including the prize Game of the Year in various specialized publications . Since its launch, the game has been adapted to many different platforms. His successor,Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released in October 2002.
Grand Theft Auto III is a game of action-adventure played from the perspective of third person . Players must complete quests – linear scenarios goals – to advance the story. [ 4 ] You can have multiple missions available at once, while some missions require the player to wait for further instructions or events. [ 5 ] In addition to the missions, players can explore the open world of the game, and be able to complete side missions. Liberty CityIt consists of three islands: Portland Island, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vile; the islands are unlocked as the player progresses in history.
The player can run, jump, or use vehicles to navigate the game world. [ 7 ] During combat, the aiming can be used as an aid against enemies. [ 8 ] As the players take damage, the health bar can be completely regenerated by the use of items that replenish health. [ 9 ] A bulletproof vest can be used to contain the damage from gunfire and explosions, but deteriorates with use. When the health bar reaches the end, the game ends and the player reappears at the nearest hospital, the cost of losing all your weapons, armor, and a certain amount of money. [ 10]
If the player commits a crime during the game, police and law enforcement may appear as indicated by the level of “searched” that appears on the head-up display (HUD). On the meter, the stars displayed indicates the level of current searched [ 11 ] (for example, the six – star threshold level, the official efforts to incapacitate the player become more aggressive). [ 12 ] The official will ask the player who is being sought on site. The wanted level enters a mode cooldown and occasionally decays when it is hidden from officials.
The game allows the player to control the criminal silent Claude . [ 13 ] In the story, the character meets several new characters gangs. As players are completing the missions for different gangs, allied gang members will defend the player, while the rival gang will recognize the players and consequently shoot this. [ 14 ] When the game world is explored, players can engage in activities such as mini-game vigilant , fireman, and working as a taxi driver . [ 11 ] [ 15 ]The completion of these activities give the rewards player according to the context; for example, after completing the missions vigilant , players will receive a pick-up of bribery that sana a crime committed.
The player makes the use of attacks mêlée , firearms, and explosives to fight enemies. Firearms include a Micro Uzi , one M16 rifle and flamethrower . [ 6 ] The three – dimensional perspective provides a first person view when you’re aiming with a sniper rifle , rocket launcher , and M16 . Additionally, the game’s combat has been reworked so that allows shots in drive-byWhile the player is looking around inside a vehicle. The player receives a large amount of weapons options – these can be bought from dealers in gun shops, by way of enemy dead, or the city. [ 9 ]
