Road Rash is a series of video games from racing in motorcycle of Electronic Arts in which the player participates in violent handles or cracks of bike on highways . The games were originally developed for Mega Drive , but was converted to many other systems. Between 1991 and 1999 they were released six versions of the game, and in 2004 a licensed conversion was produced for Game Boy Advance . Road Rash was the first racing game to promote physical combat between participants and its name refers to injuries resulting from falls at high speed.
The games have a vision of third – person perspective, similar to the game Hang-On , the player competes in road races and needs to finish at least in the top four places in every race to proceed to the next level. With the advancement in the game, opponents become faster and combative and length of the tracks increases, getting more dangerous. The final classification of the evidence is accompanied by a cash prize that can be used to buy faster bikes – needed to remain competitive – the game ends if the player can not pay for repairs on the bike or can not afford the bail to be stuck.
One of the innovations brought by Road Rash was the addition of a vertical element to racing games. In previous games, the player’s vehicle remained in a fixed horizontal plane, basically moving to the right or left (see Pole Position ). In Road Rash, players have to deal with changes in altitude and physical (even primitive compared to modern games), noted when walking on a lot or curves uphill. This allows the bike to be thrown a great distance without the control of the player.
Road Rash also introduced an interactive environment, with signs, trees and poles, as well as animals such as cattle and deer that can get in your way or be used as weapons against opponents. Moreover, it was one of the first games with traffic , which the player must avoid during the race.
But the factor that defined the series was its combat element. The player can fight with other bikers using handguns. Starting only with fists own, could steal weapons from opponents and use them. Among the weapons available in the series are nest-goats , truncheons , nunchakus and currents . The fights between riders may take the floor and damage the bike.
The games also have police that can hold the player and fine him, to get him away from your bike or take him down during a fight.
The Road Rash series was also one of the first games to include well – known artists on its soundtrack. The version for 3DO , for example, had as background music of the band Soundgarden .
The game also has a tone of humor. For example: when the motorcycle player hits too hard and ends up exploding, appears a scene in the ambulance arrives and takes the bike, leaving the player asking for help or when the officer holds the player with the dog and playing with ease the prisoner in the trunk of the car.
