Requires players to collect resources to build an empire, train the troops, and then to conquer other civilizations [3] .
The game is based on a strongly “compressed” version of world history and covers five eras – from the Middle Ages to World War II [4] . The game features nine civilizations: England, the Franks, Korea and China are available at the stages from the beginning of the Middle Ages to the Empire and the United States, Russia, Germany, France and the UK – in the era of the First and Second World Wars. The mission ends when all players but one have surrendered or been defeated; The last remaining player is awarded the victory. To win, players must create and improve a balanced and organized army [8] . The game features land, sea and air forces, whose availability depends on the selected period. These units have their own strengths and weaknesses in a format similar to “rock-paper-scissors”: each type of forces affect the other units in different ways [9] . Each kind of forces is a single soldier or combat vehicle, whose speed and range depend on the type and civilization. The orders given to the troops include reconnaissance, protection, actions in defense and offensive action.
The resources, which include food, wood, gold and stone, are required in different combinations to create different buildings and army. Throughout the game, settlers gather resources and include them in the building called the “city center”.
The multiplayer component of the game to function on the basis of GameSpy system that is freely available to any player who has a patched version of the game, but since 2007, this game is no longer supported by GameSpy to play online. From two to eight people or enemies with artificial intelligence opponents can compete in the “short”, focused only on the battle multiplayer mode (Action Mode) or “duty”, focused on defense mode (Empire Builder-Mode) [10] . Regimes, civilization and types of cards are available in single player and multiplayer modes. Maps are randomly generated for each game, but correspond to the general terrain, select the start of the match the player [11] . The player also chooses the size of the map and the number of units of troops,
After moving into a new era of players become available to new improvements. They need to perform various combinations of resources and extend the capabilities of different ways of gaming units. Once committed to improve the old troop types can not be created.
